The department is responsible for the safety control tests of blood products, vaccines, antibiotics and other biologics. Evaluation and supply of national standards are also included.
Research projects are directed to the basic study for the safety control technologies and immunological host responses of the above-mentioned products.

LABORATORY OF BLOOD PRODUCTS
Evaluation and quality control of immunoglobulin preparations. Studies on quality control of blood products. Development of prevention methods for post-transfusion viral infections.
LABORATORY OF IMMUNOHAEMATOLOGY
Evaluation and control of immunoglobulins (anti-D, anti-HBs), coagulation factors and blood-typing antibodies. Evaluation of In vitro diagnostic kits for blood typing. Establishment of national standard materials required for the evaluation mentioned above. Applied as well as fundamental research on the safety of blood transfusion.
LABORATORY OF PHYSICOCHEMISTRY
Physicochemical evaluation and quality control of biological products and their basic research. Evaluation of In vitro diagnostic kits for HBs Ag and HCV related antibodies. Studies regarding the methods of diagnosis and therapy against viral infections mediated through blood. Also, research on the development of vaccine and host immune response against the infections.
LABORATORY OF SAFETY TEST
Evaluation and control of plasma-derived medicinal products (albumin and haptoglobin). Evaluation and control of pyrogenicity for biological products. Research on safety of biological products.
LABORATORY OF MATERIALS ANALYSIS
Developing and testing test methods for novel modality products. Research on mass spectrometry, interaction analysis, and structural analysis of biological products and biomaterials.
